Cookie policy
This page lists every cookie this site sets, what each one is for and how long it lasts. It is generated from the site's own configuration, so it cannot fall out of date with the site.
This page is being reviewed by VP Racing Europe’s legal advisers before launch. The cookie inventory below is generated from the site itself and is accurate now; the surrounding legal wording is not yet final.
This site sets four strictly necessary cookies, always. It loads no advertising tags at all. It also uses two analytics tools, and neither loads until you allow the analytics category: before you choose, and if you choose “Reject all”, neither is loaded, neither sends a request, and neither keeps anything on your device. Vercel Web Analytics, once allowed, sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device; PostHog, once allowed, also sets an analytics cookie. You can check both claims in your browser’s network inspector, and an automated test in this codebase checks that refusing sets no analytics or marketing cookie on every build.
What it does change is what other companies can store. Allowing marketing cookies lets the posts on our social page load from Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, and those set cookies on their own domains, under their own policies. They are not listed below because this site does not set them and cannot list them honestly. Until you allow that category, none of those posts loads at all, and each one is shown as a link instead.
Policy version 1
Strictly necessary
Remember your cookie choices, keep the site secure, and stop our forms being used to send spam. The site cannot work without these, so they are always on.
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
vp_consent | VP Racing Europe | Remembers your cookie choices so you are not asked on every page. Holds the categories you allowed, the version of the policy you saw, and when you chose. | 6 months |
vp_region_hint | VP Racing Europe | Records whether you appear to be inside or outside Europe, so the site can offer the US site once instead of guessing on every page. It holds the word "eu" or "non-eu" and nothing else — no country, no IP address, no identifier. | Session |
vp_region_banner_dismissed | VP Racing Europe | Remembers that you closed the "looking for the US site?" banner, so it stays closed. | 6 months |
vp_offers_prompt | VP Racing Europe | Remembers that you have already been shown — or have dismissed — the special-offers sign-up prompt, so it is not shown again for 30 days. | 30 days |
vp_locale | VP Racing Europe | Remembers the language you chose from the language switcher, so the site keeps showing it on your next visit. Holds a two-letter language code and nothing else. | 1 year |
vp_announcement_dismissed | VP Racing Europe | Remembers that you closed the announcement banner at the top of the page, so it stays closed until the message changes. It holds a short code for the message and nothing else. | 6 months |
Analytics
Help us understand which pages are read and where people give up, so we can fix what is not working. Never used to identify you.
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
ph_<project>_posthog | PostHog (EU) | Remembers you across visits for anonymous analytics — pages viewed, how you found the site. PostHog is loaded, and this cookie set, ONLY once you allow this category; before that, and if you decline it, PostHog is not loaded and sends no request. See src/components/consent/PostHogClient.tsx. | 1 year |
_ga | Only if Google Analytics is switched on for this site (it is off unless configured): tells visits apart to produce anonymous statistics. Set only once you allow analytics cookies. | 2 years | |
_ga_<container> | Only if Google Analytics is switched on for this site (it is off unless configured): keeps the state of a visit for anonymous statistics. Set only once you allow analytics cookies. | 2 years |
Marketing
Measure our advertising, and allow embedded content — videos hosted on YouTube, and the posts on our social page from Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. Turning this off means those embeds do not load, and each one becomes a link to the post instead.
This site sets no cookies in this category.
Cookies we do not set
The posts on our social page are hosted by Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, and are treated as marketing: they do not load until you allow that category, because loading one sends a request to that company carrying your address and the page you are on.
VP’s own films are the exception, and you should know about it. They are hosted by YouTube and they load whatever you choose here, so that VP’s films play without extra steps. Watching one — and, on the social page, the wall of stills — is a request to Google carrying your address and the page you are on, exactly as it is for the embeds above. Once a film starts, YouTube’s own player also contacts other Google services of its own accord; we have measured google.com, gstatic.com and googleapis.com, and the list is theirs rather than ours. Nothing else on this site behaves this way, and elsewhere a film shows only its still until you press play.
