Nobody asks for a fuel.
They arrive with a problem.

You smell it before you see anything. Walk into a paddock on a Saturday morning and it arrives before the noise does — sweet, sharp, chemical, nothing like the forecourt. Anyone who has spent a weekend at a circuit knows it instantly and cannot describe it, and it goes somewhere a photograph does not reach.

That smell is the whole company. Fifty years ago a handful of people in San Antonio started mixing fuel for racers who had run out of options, because the pump would not give them what they needed and the big refiners were not interested in a problem that only existed for a few thousand engines.

That is still the whole job. Every blend exists because somebody walked in with an engine that nothing on the shelf could feed.

01 — The company

In July 2026, VP stopped exporting to Europe and started operating in it

VP Racing Fuels acquired Pro Energy Fuel Limited outright — a European supplier of aviation gasoline, racing fuels, oils and related products — and put its European headquarters in Sligo. The distinction that matters is ownership rather than arrangement. A distributor agreement is a contract that can lapse. An acquisition is a company, with staff, stock and an address, and it does not go away when a contract year ends. Everything on this site now ships from inside Europe rather than to it.

02 — The lab

How a blend gets built

A custom fuel is not mixed at the track. It takes months, and most of that time is spent proving the thing is repeatable before anybody is allowed to buy it.

01

The complaint

A team, a series or an engine builder describes what is going wrong — detonation under boost, a rulebook that just went unleaded, an altitude that is killing the tune-up.

02

The constraint

Sanctioning body limits come first. Lead, oxygen content, specific gravity and dielectric all have to land inside the window tech will check at the scales.

03

The bench

Component selection and small-batch blending in the lab. Distillation curve, vapour pressure and octane get measured rather than estimated.

04

The dyno

Back-to-back pulls against the closest existing blend. If it does not make more power or survive more timing, it does not go forward.

05

The season

A real team runs it for a full season before it becomes a product. Something that works once is a sample. Something that works in August is a fuel.

06

The drum

Production blending, batch testing and packaging. The number that matters after this point is how little the fuel varies from drum to drum.

04 — The record

The part that can be checked

Fuel companies all claim horsepower. The only claim worth printing is the one with a name and a date attached to it.
